Acoustic office screens
Acoustic and free standing screens can be used to create new or temporary office spaces, or simply to help divide areas where privacy is required. Acoustic office screens help reduce sound travelling by absorbing any noise that directly hits the screen by up to 75% & now 90% (on certain acoustic screens). This can be achieved by using various thickness of acoustic foam. The below images are examples from leading screen manufacturers. Contact Urban Office Interiors for more information.

Sound principles in mind
Sound is a complex form of energy with differing
power levels & wavelengths, expertise is
required to shape and control how it impacts
your work environment. Sound is received in two
parts, ‘direct’ and ‘reverberant’ components. The
former is where the signal (noise) is received in a
direct line from the source and the latter via
reflections from the environment i.e. office walls
and surfaces. These components manifest
themselves as background noise, thus potential
lack of privacy.
Introducing absorbent surfaces and acoustic
materials into an environment will lower the
overall sound pressure level and therefore the
amount of noise present. Intelligent placement of
these materials can greatly increase the benefit
to the occupants.
Desk screening, for example, will absorb sound‘at source’, placing absorbency solely at the
office perimeter, will lower the overall
background noise level but will not assist in
privacy levels as adjacent desks still have the
opportunity to impact on their neighbour.
Therefore a balance of treatments will provide an
even distribution of ‘noise control’ lowering both
direct sound from co-workers, the overall level
experienced, reducing stress, and increasing
both intelligibility and productivity.
